URBN VINO started in 2016 with a plan to bring winemaking right into the heart of Dunedin city. The small parcel, single vineyard, hands-on style of winemaking which helped define the Central Otago wine region.

Urban wineries are nothing new. For hundreds of years people across Europe transported their grapes to their local town squares to produce and share their wines. In the USA, modern city wineries are now an established part of San Diego, Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. City wineries have also recently emerged in Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.

Dunedin has something in common with these cities. A world class wine producing region sits in its backyard. Amongst the wine media and enthusiasts around the world Central Otago has an established reputation for producing wines of the highest quality.

Craft breweries are increasingly bringing their production out of industrial factories and into the heart of New Zealand cities to show and share their expertise. The vitality, ideas and social interaction of the urban environment often inspires innovation and experimentation. They engage directly with the real people who drink their products. URBN VINO DUNEDIN intends to do exactly the same.
